I might go see it on Sunday when there's a finale! My friend lived in a building opposite that building last year at uni! He's gonna see it on Sunday too though when he moves back for the 2nd year but what a thing that would have been to wake up to!

Roma, did you see the Bourgeouis retrospective at the Tate? With 'la maman' outside?

Thats amazing! I love spiders! The bigger they are, the most I love them. [yes, I realize its fake btw, lol.] Happy I wish I could see it [but sadly... I live in Nevada, lol].

I'm MUCH to lazy to look it up, so could someone explain to me exactly what its for? Is it like an art thing, or a promotional thing, or... does it have some other purpose or something]? OR, is it completely random, which would be awesome.

i did, rosie! yes! well, i only saw la maman. i don't like paying to view art because i think it should be accessible to all sorts of people with all sorts of moneys. i understand the artist needs to make a living, but i feel strongly about the lack of culture in society today, and being forced to pay to see art makes it elitist, and makes it even trickier to introduce people to the art world.

And disarray- it's art for art's sake. i think it's to with street theatre too.

Roma and Rosie do you mean this:

I took that pic!!! Hardly any of us went into her exhibition, I hate going to these places on college trips, didn't even get to see anything else properly in London.

and yes La Princess is just for fun, I don't think it's art for art's sake because most people when they see art for art's sake go 'I dont get it' but everyone gets this! Liverpool is this years Capital of Culture but this is the only thing that's been any good!

I totally agree with you Roma. I think similarly about books though - they should be a lot cheaper because I think anyone has the right to read a book and educate themselves. I don't mean free (although libraries ARE wonderful things) but come on, £8 for a 100 page paper-back? Ridiculous

haha I went on a college trip too, and absolutely refused to pay too, so I stood near the entrance and craned my neck to see the stuff and got filthy looks from the attendents. I'm sure they were only doing a retrospective because shes like 96.
She said that the spider is her mother, to which most people assume some deep-seated maternal hate but to the artist the spider is a symbol of neatness, industry, order. I think once you know that the whole aspect of the piece changes.

yeh I don't think I knew who it was by until I realised in this thread, I love the stories behind peices, it makes you see them in a whole new way, I totally love that spider now when we got there and saw it we were going 'WAR OF THE WOOORLDS!!!', we also saw the crack and were calling the people that were looking at it 'crack whores' lol very art student....not...I went there when they had the slides too but there were huge queues and I think you had to pay!!

La Princess was on the move today, it wasn't that good though but they didnt get a good camera angle! And I don't think I'll get to see it now anyway Happy

I LOVE art for arts sake!

People always ask "whats it for" or "why" or they say "I don't get it"... I actually Don't understand THEM. Its art... its for.. amazingness! Its one of the things that humans can do that computers and machines cannot. Machines can replicate art, but they don't get inspired, they arn't creative, they don't FEEL, which is one of the things that makes art GREAT [in my opinion anyway].

I would LOVE to go there! The only big Art thing I have in Vegas is something called First Friday, and I was actually supposed to go, but there is no way to GET BACK, so I couldn't go :. NEXT MONTH THOUGH ! [Its a once of amonth, the first friday of the month, just a GIANT art exhibition, street performers, chalk, and... its just AN AMAZING atmosphere!].

Happy
