The Cable Cast On - Any tips?

I just discovered the cable cast on, which I love because I never know how long to leave as a tail but I'm finding it quite tight to work with. Does anyone have any tips? Should I loosen up my tension? Thanks so much Knitting

Maybe try sizing up your needles for the cast on?
