Denim advice please :)?

Hey everyone! I found a pair of denim shorts with an image of a skull on them. The image looks like it is 'distressed' into the fabric. The shorts are pretty pricey so I want to try and do this on a pair of old shorts I have at home but I can't figure out I would achieve this look. The image is here -

So any suggestions or advice on how I can do this would be GREATLY appreciated as I very eager to get started on it Happy Thanks in advance!

There's a tutorial on distressing here: http://www.madebylex.com/2010/06/how-to-distress-denim-jeans.html

I'd suggest you marked out the skull pattern, then using the knife method from the tutorial, distressed the inside of that pattern.

The tutorial Tasha posted is great.
To keep it clean like the shorts you want, I suggest only cutting horizontally.
