Denim

Okay, so I really want to fix up pretty much all of my jeans, but I'm not sure what kind of stitch to use. I'm worried that a straight stitch won't be strong enough and I'm not really all that sure about a zig zag. I'm really new to sewing though so I don't really know what's up yet.

What do you guys think?

I find a staight stitch to be the strongest, a zig zag stitch is mostly for stretchy materials like jersey. You will need a stronger thread and a machine that can handle heavier materials. I would go to your local sewing store, the people who work there really know their stuff and should be able to help you pick thread and everything.
