Resin? :D

i would really love to start making resin jewellery- i have so many ideas!
BUT
does anyone know any good websites that sell it? many i have found don't have the correct mould in stock that I need. and preferablly UK based too because the postage can be pretty expensive!
also, do you need to wear a fume mask for the beginner-type resins? do they give off lots of fumes?
thanks for any help! ;D

Hi! I've just started using resin myself...It can get very messy, but it is alot of fun to work with and the results are amazing when done correctly! Alot of people (including myself) recommend starting off with Easycast Clear Casting Epoxy (which comes with 2 parts- the resin, and the hardener), and there are lots of websites that sell it...http://www.metalclay.co.uk/ has the resin and the moulds!

The fumes it gives off don't smell very strong, but it still does give off fumes so you should definitely wear a mask when working with it, and make sure you use it in a well-ventilated area.

Hope I helped a little! :]

I agree with The Corkiness, EasyCast is great!
But now I'm worried....I don't wear a mask and I haven't had any trouble...

EasyCast is a great resin as long as you use it in thin coatings as it will yellow over time or end up cloudy. I generally use it when I simply want to leaving a light coating on a piece. If I need to fill something, say a bottle cap or watch base, then I go with ICE resin. It's quite pricey but it's jeweler's grade resin and is guaranteed not to yellow. Also, it dries so clear, it's like it's not even there! Unfortunately, I have no idea where to get it in the UK though any major online supplier should carry it. In the US, I know Hobby Lobby is the only brick-n-mortar that carries it in my general area.

Another thing to remember, depending on how you want to play with your resin, alcohol inks can color it without causing too much of a change in the time it takes to set. A drop of blue can make a pretty resin background for an ocean collage, for example Happy

You're supposed to use a mask but I don't :/ probably should. The resin I got said to avoid contact with skin too.

It's really very simple to do but you will need a beaker with a spout it's really messy if you don't.
