Making a fitting mannequin.

Well I'm doing research before attempting my own fitting mannequin. Has anyone had any success with this? If so, any tips would be super.

for a personal one, i've heard that you should cling wrap your body, then cover that with duck tape. I never have personally tried it. you could also check craigslist for mannequins. man, that's a great idea. i am going to go do that.

I've never made one myself but I've had a look round. The most popular one is to wear an old t-shirt and wrap yourself up in duct tape. Then cut a slit in the back (someone else will have to do this for you obv) so you can get outta it.

I have been wanting to try the duct-tape-over-a-tshirt thing for a couple of months now. I hope I have time soon, it would make things easier... I will be sure to post info on how it turns out when I do!

I read a tip about using water activated packaging tape instead of duct tape. I don't think it would make a difference which one you used but who knows.

Waters activated packaging would probably come out quite stiff i think, probably the better of the two methods. Maybe even use plaster bandages?

It makes me scratch my head as to why people want to make their own. non-adjustable ones are only $85 or so online, and are much more pretty and you can stick pins in them for draping! I'm saving up rather than making one myself Happy

I was thinking of making one ages ago but I didn't. I can understand why people want to make one because they are cheap and alot of people are struggling financially atm.

However, that being said, I've seen some really pretty ones online for about £50 and they actually stand up on a pole. I was struggling with how to get a home made one to stand up on a pole.

So I will be saving and when I've got a job I shall buy one!!

i really can't afford a dress form either so i plan on making one. it also helps that it will be an exact replica of your own body....that'll be REALLY helpful. plus, its really simple to sew a fitted cover for it, and that way you can stick pins in it freely Happy
