I used a basic yellow cake mix that I enhanced it with 1/3 to 1/2 cup of peanut butter (can't recall, but I can check a similar recipe that I based it on). Once the cupcake liners with filled with butter, I dropped a Hershey's kiss into the center and gently pulled a little batter of them just to cover. As I recall, tip down worked best. They didn't melt as nicely as I'd hoped so I'd probably use the truffle-style Kisses, which have soft centers at room temperature, next time to improve the texture.
For the frosting, I mixed one cup of vanilla buttercream frosting with 1/2 cup of peanut butter. Then, I added that frosting (at an angle) to my pastry bag fitted with a large star tip. The angle allowed me to then add some chocolate buttercream frosting (on the other side of the pastry bag) so the two flavors swirled as they came out.
Hope that helps!
