When did you first start sewing and how did you learn?

I began sewing as a teen, under my mother's supervision. I learned the basics of clothing construction and made a few garments for myself but was often frustrated with commercial patterns! Fast forward 12 years and I began sewing again as a young mother. The rest of my knowledge is self (and internet) taught!

Can you remember the first thing you made?

No, but I'm sure it was horrid! The first thing I made that I was actually proud of was a midi-length skirt with godets for my mother. She loved it and it fit her perfectly!

Do you have any favourite pattern designers or celebrity sewers?

I'm a huge fan of any successful indie pattern designer. Once I began designing my own patterns, I realized how much time and effort goes into a well-designed and properly drafted garment!

What's your sewing room like and how do you organize your stash?

It is a teeny, tiny corner in my basement rec room! That room also serves as a theater room, toy room and schoolroom for the whole family - it's packed! I've set my machines and ironing board up in an L-shape in the corner, along with some pattern storage underneath. My fabrics are in a closet under the stairs.

Even though it's cramped, I love being in the same room as my kids. It's the only way I get any creating done during the day!

What music/podcasts/TV shows do you love to stitch along to?

For TV, any crime drama! I love Law & Order, CSI, Chicago PD, etc. I'm also a huge fan of action movies.
I'm just now getting into some podcasts that I love - mostly self-improvement topics or This American Life.

Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?

I did lots of cross-stitching in high school and college - mainly whenever I didn't have access to a sewing machine. I've also dabbled in oil painting and love it, although the finished product takes much longer than sewing.
I love to run and do other fitness, especially training for and competing in triathlons. I also really, really enjoy baking!

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I ADORE our online sewing community!
Thanks for having me!
