maybe for those who had it stick to the cutter, spray a little Pam in the cutter first? i had a problem similar to this when making candles for a project in high school.

That came out really nice. I would have never thought to melt my beads down like this... or to make my own barbed wire... which could be quite useful for other projects. I can't wait to get some cookie cutters and try this!

What a great idea! I tried this last night and it worked like a charm. I used those tri-point beads that are sold right next to the pony beads at the craft store and they worked perfect! I had the oven at 450 degrees. I spread out the beads evenly and cooked for about eight minutes. Then, I opened the oven a put a few more beads inside each heart, adn cooked for another six minutes. My hearts were nice and thick this way.

Thanks for posting such a great idea!

That is so cool! I have melted the jewel colored pony beads but it didn't turn out like I wanted to. I have a heart mold and I will try using the jewel colored beads in red and see what happens!
Great Tut!

Ahhh no, it's a combo microwave / oven / grill, but the oven bit on that wouldn't go hot enough. I should have made that clearer.

hahaha no but you mentioned how your microwave was not up for it so I got a bit worried! I once put a cornetto in the microwave for a few seconds to melt it a bit and didn't think the wrapper would do much harm but its like metalic paper, the blue flashes were scary! I'm scared of microwaves anyway lol

Any cheap plastic beads should melt well, even if they're opaque, just make sure they're plastic.

No problem everyone. I just set my cooker to the highest possible heat and used that to melt it down, it does have to be very hot for the beads to melt - my microwave oven just isn't up to the job.
