Tell us a bit about your home and what you love about it the most?
I adore our little home. It's actually the first house in which I have ever lived (not a rental). A Cape Cod-style built in the 1950s, it's small on space but has lots of charm. Even after ten years of living here, I still marvel at being able to plant the bushes I want, paint walls and change hardware. It's really how my "published life" began -- starting a blog to chronicle my DIY adventures.
What was the first DIY project you did to your home or first thing you made for it?
The first DIY project I really took on was to transform a miserable first-floor bedroom in our home that had become almost a storage area (er, dumping ground) into the room we affectionately call The Girly Office. I painted the walls and trim, altered furniture, outfitted the space with no-sew projects, and tinkered cans and jars for storage. Because we had decided that this room would be mine, I felt free to use pale pastels and rose prints without worrying to temper it for my house full of guys.
Do you have any tips for staying tidy & organised?
I wish I did! I do aim to keep similar items together, and on a regular basis will fill a bag with crafty odds and ends and give it to someone I think will enjoy it.
If you could tour any celebrities home, who would it be?
I love Tina Fey so it would be interesting to see how she lives -- if she collects things, color preferences, stuff like that. I think I'd rather see someone's pretty little cottage than some opulent, unattainable mansion.
If you had three wishes, what changes would you make to your home?
Great question! Note that in this wish, the genie does all of the work.
1) Add a covered deck area outside
2) Finish the basement
3) Add a half bathroom upstairs
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I enjoy arranging flowers, taking and altering pictures, and drawing.
