So this is the first project I post, hope you like it. I've seen a few plaid shirts with the empire waists in stores and really liked them. I thought, why not make one and proceeded to the nearest vintage shop where I found this shirt...

Description

So this is the first project I post, hope you like it. I've seen a few plaid shirts with the empire waists in stores and really liked them. I thought, why not make one and proceeded to the nearest vintage shop where I found this shirt...

Instructions

  1. Small 005 1271291685

Since the shirt I was using was really big I had to take in the sides a bit before adding the empire waist. (be careful not to make it tight, it has to be at least 1 size bigger then what you'd normally wear) if you need to do this be sure to pin your shirt inside out evenly on both sides and to pin up gradually past the arm pit and into the under side of the arm(so u don't end up with weird underarms). Sew.

  2. Small 007 1271292328

Once the sides have been taken in to the appropriate size decide how high you want the waist to be. On the inside of your shirt pin the ribbon so that it's evenly placed all around your chosen waist. Sew both sides of the ribbon leaving enough room to pass elastic (and pin for ease) through.

  3. Small 009 1271292745

    Put elastic through...

  4. Small 010 1271292789

Once I put the elastic through, I tried it on to see just how tight I wanted to make the elastic. Once the size was decided I sewed the ends of the ribbon closed with a piece of elastic sticking out to make sure it wouldn't come undone. Now you have your empire waist plaid shirt.
