This refashion started out as an Anthro recreation. However, it went horribly wrong and I had to go in another direction. I got some help from Nancy D (here on CO+K). I couldn't have done this without her help. So...thanks Nancy D for taking the time to explain the sleeves here's to you ;0) So...I thought I'd share how I made this top with you all. I look forward to see all of your fabulous versions!!!!!

Description

This refashion started out as an Anthro recreation. However, it went horribly wrong and I had to go in another direction. I got some help from Nancy D (here on CO+K). I couldn't have done this without her help. So...thanks Nancy D for taking the time to explain the sleeves here's to you ;0) So...I thought I'd share how I made this top with you all. Instructions

  1. Small flutter 1 1305138689

You will need 2 t-shirts. One needs to be in your size. The other just depends on if you want really big flutter sleeves or not. Bigger shirt = bigger sleeves Smaller shirt = smaller sleeves

  2. Small flutter 2 1305138760

Carefully remove the sleeves from the main top (the one you're going to wear).

  3. Small flutter cut 1305139651

Grab your other top and cut just below the sleeves. Cut it straight across so all you have left is the bottom of the shirt. Sorry about the crappy paint illustration I didn't get a real picture of that step. Hey...make it work right :0)

  4. Small flutter 4 1305139266

Separate the front and back pieces by opening the side seam. You should have 2 rectangle shaped pieces as illustrated.

  5. Small flutter 5 1305139867

Cut the bottom hem of your rectangle pieces off or hem the opposite side to match. Fold them in half (the long way) and cut it as illustrated. You should now have four long rectangles.

  6. Small flutter 6 1305139951

Sew two pieces end to end so you have two very long rectangles.

  7. Small flutter 8 1305140063

Grab your main t-shirt... With the right sides together, line the seam from one long strip up with the shoulder seam of your t-shirt. Pin all the way around...then sew. Do the same with the other side (these are your flutter sleeves)

  8. Small flutter 10 1305140500

The underside of your sleeve should still be open. Lay the shirt flat and draw a diagonal line from the end of the sleeve to the armpit.

  9. Small flutter 11 1305140508

Pin in place and sew. Cut the excess fabric off.

  10. Small flutter final 4 1305140737

This gives you a dramatic flutter.

  11. Small flutter 13 1305140608

Carefully remove the collar from the t-shirt Fold the collar in about 3/4 inch and press. Pin and sew the flap closed with a 1/4" seam allowance. Be sure to leave an opening for the elastic. Hook a safety pin onto the end of the elastic and run it through the opening of the shirt. Stitch in place and close the opening.

  12. Small flutter 14 1305140616

With your leftover fabric, you can add ruffles, flowers, yo-yo's and whatever else your heart desires.

  13. Small flutter final 2 1305140693

Or...you can leave it plain and accessorize with a flower...

  14. Small flutter final 3 1305140693

    Or even a belt
