About

The story of Jodi's birth:

So I went to the hospital on Sunday night, the 16th to get ready to be induced. They broke my water at 6:30am on Monday morning and then followed 12 hours of labor. I did have an epidural, which was HEAVEN. (I recommend that to anyone having a baby.) When it was time to push, I went for about 45 minutes and the doctor informed me that my pelvic bones were too narrow for Jodi to fit through. So I had to have an emergency c-section. During the c-section she was wedged in my birth canal really tight and she came out with a big bruise over her eye. But she was totally healthy and fine. She weighed 8 lbs 14 oz and was 19 and 3/4 inches long. I on the other hand was not. My uterus was really floppy and worn out (atonic) and after the c-section I was gushing tones of blood. I had to go to the ICU where they did another surgery to cut off the blood flow to the arteries in my uterus. I had 3 IV's and 7 packets of blood to replace what I had lost. I don't remember doing so, but I kept asking the doctors and nurses if I was going to die, which I very well could have. They all said that I gave them a huge scare. They almost had to do a hysterectomy (remove my uterus) and I was bawling and in hysterics. But the surgery went well and I had to spend 2 days in the ICU. Which means Jodi was bottle fed for 2 days, but I have since gotten her to change over to breast feeding. I was moved to the regular labor and delivery recovery room on Wednesday afternoon and finally got to come on Friday afternoon. It's been almost a week now and I feel a lot better, but it will be a few more weeks til I am fully recovered. But I'm still here, thankfully and Jodi is doing great!
