How did you find CO+K and why did you join?

I found CO&K through an internet search for craft ideas. I decided to join after looking at numerous craft idea and projects that I wanted to try myself. Soon I found myself adding my own projects and ideas so others could, hopefully, get some inspiration from me.

What projects are you currently working on?

Currently I am working on 2 quilts. One for my nieces high school graduation and another for my great niece who belongs to my oldest nephew. One is called X's and O's, the other is something I am just winging. I also was asked by my good friend, Edith, to make a formal dress for an upcoming wedding. It made me very honored that she has enough confidence in my work to entrust me with such a task. My only "formal" sewing class was my freshman year in high school which was back in about 1993.

What does your craft space look like?

OK This one is a little embarrassing because my work area is normally a disaster area. When I was asked to be a feature on CO&K I decided it was the prefect time to do a little spring cleaning. Since I normally have at least 4 sewing projects, like quilts and skirts, going on at one time.

Since many of my projects are work on our home itself. I would consider my entire home my craft space. Pallet walls, door islands, brown paper bag walls, milk crates for shelves, and so on and so forth.

Which tool or craft supply do you use the most?

My sewing machine is by far my favorite crafting tool I have. Since our wiener dog, Slinky, became paralyzed in his hind legs in 2011 I had to become very creative with drag bags for him. I needed something that would keep his diaper on, infants size 4, keep is hind legs up and protect his butt from the "thumping". At that point my sewing machine and I became very close friends.

What do you craft along to?

I constantly have music on and once in a while have to take a break from crafting to dance a little bit around the house. You will also catch me singing my heart our to my favorite songs. I listen to a WIDE variety of music from Rusted Roots to ACDC to Jack Johnson and Frank Sinatra. Once in a while I will play an audio book, usually a thriller, mystery or horror story.

Favorite Craft

Trying to pick just one craft that I enjoy doing the most is really hard. The one thing that all my crafts have in common is that they are all made from recycled materials. I proud myself in finding new life for our favorite old things. I spend more time at my sewing machine then anyplace else, so I think my favorite craft is anything I can sew from recycled materials.

If you could learn one new craft or make anything, what would it be?

That is a great question, however I want to try all crafts at least once. Normally one craft will lead me into another and then another and so on and so forth. If I had to choose one thing I think I would like to learn it would be blacksmithing. Metals can be turned into such amazing things and can be incorporated into so many other crafts. I am not sure I could handle the heat but it would be great to try.

Who are your crafting heroes?

My grandmother who taught me how to first crochet would be my biggest hero. I also have a dear friend, Keisha, who has moved to Ecuador, she showed me a book one night called Generation T: Beyond Fashion. I sat for hours looking at the book and eventually bought my own. That started me on my t-shirt recycling projects, now I am a t-shirt recycling snob :-)
