Have you always been creative and what’s the earliest work you can remember creating?

Honestly, I have no idea! I must have always been the creative type; however, I only noticed my passion for designing and creating when I was in my mid to late twenties...and even more so when I was pregnant with my fourth girl in my early thirties. I suppose by having four kids I was exposed to a lot more color than ever before. Along with that color came inspiration of my own. I did my first mixed media canvas when I was 34.

What's your studio like and how do you keep organised?

My studio is very open and provides lots of sunshine! I do share it with the rest of my family though; therefore, when I am not working, the art table can be covered with homework and school projects at times. I have "stations" set up. Acrylic paints in one area, watercolors in another, blank canvases over here and watercolor paper over there. I am a neat freak so I do make sure that everything is organized and easy to find. In the end, it makes my creative process flow better.

Where do you look for inspiration?

Inspiration is everywhere. I can see other art, street art, photos on Instagram, clothes, products in a store, a children's book and immediately come up with an idea or be inspired to create a painting in certain hues. 90% of the time my inspiration level is running at full speed...it is the lack of time that causes me to not be able to create as much as I would like.

Whats in your pencil case / camera bag?

Top drawer of my desk....pure junk! Postage stamps mainly, a few Sharpie markers and my Sales Tax booklet so that I don't forget to pay that every 3 months!

Any tips for someone suffering from creative block?

Since I am constantly creating for work full time, when I have a creative block, I try messing around and creating for fun! I play with mixing colors, paint types, shapes, different mediums, etc. and then something all of the sudden starts to take shape and I am inspired. In the end, it is about being fearless. If you have something you are trying to bring to life, just make a mark, any type of mark, and build from there.

Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?

Does being a mom to four girls and a wife to one count as a hobby???

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I am a true coffee addict! LOVE children's books...and feel like a sister most of the time to my four girls. They keep me young!
