When did you first start sewing and how did you learn?
My mom taught me to sew when I was very young. She taught me to hand sew first and then gradually taught me to use her machine. She would make my dresses for special occasions and Halloween costumes. My Grandma made quilts for all of her grandchildren. I grew up surrounded by sewing, so I learned to sew pretty young.
Can you remember the first thing you made?
It was probably a pillow. My room growing up was filled with all the pillows I made.
Do you have any favourite pattern designers or celebrity sewers?
I love almost all the people on Project Runway. Watching them make the patterns and sew an outfit in such a short period of time is amazing. I really respect what they are able to do.
What's your sewing room like and how do you organize your stash?
I live in a fairly small apartment. My sewing space is a section of my guest bedroom. I have to keep my space very organized or it just looks like a disaster zone. Since my space is so small, I often take over other areas of my apartment when I'm sewing large projects like quilts.
What music/podcasts/TV shows do you love to stitch along to?
I leave TLC or HGTV on the TV while I sew. Those type of shows allow me to only be halfway listening while I work but still be able to follow what's happening in the episode when I need a break.
Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?
I love all kinds of crafting. I have way more scrapbooks than most people do, but I think they are such a great way to preserve memories. I also love to find ways to decorate my apartment on a budget. This involves lots of DIY projects.
I also consider myself an amateur photographer. I mainly focus on nature photography. I don't really like taking pictures of people.
