Tell us a bit about your home and what you love about it the most?

My husband and I bought our brick home in late 2013 and have been renovating ever since. Our home is a combination of many styles. I would describe it as modern-traditional with hints of farmhouse and industrial style. We are both avid DIYers and believe that we can make a beautiful home without spending a fortune. From the kitchen to the living room and the family room to the master bedroom, we have renovated mostly all of our main living areas. We are currently tackling our basement and my home office, and we have tons of other projects we want to do in the near future. My favorite space in the home always seems to be the one we are working on at that particular moment. Right now I’m working on renovating and decorating my home office, and I’m thrilled with the look I’m beginning to achieve.

What was the first DIY project you did to your home or first thing you made for it?

The first DIY project I did to our current home was whitewashing our brick fireplace. Our brick fireplace actually consists of a brick wall and the fireplace is toward the left side of the brick wall. The brick was originally a typical red-toned brick and the fireplace was made of outdated brass. My husband I wanted a light and bright living room, and the red brick and brass fireplace was nothing short of an eyesore. That’s when I decided to try my hand at whitewashing. I did a bit of research before tackling the project and then put my own spin on it. We also spray painted the brass fireplace black. I was and still am thrilled with the results. The project took quite a bit of time but it was well worth it in the end. The ambience of the room has completely changed, and the brick fireplace wall is now the statement of the room. You can check out the project as part of my DIY reveal here on Cut Out + Keep!

Do you have any tips for staying tidy & organised?

Staying tidy and organized can be a challenge. My number one tip for calming the house mess is to have a ‘catch all’ basket. My laundry room is on my main floor, which is where I keep my ‘catch all’ basket. As I accumulate items on the main floor that belong upstairs or downstairs, I simply place them in the basket and return them to their proper place when I have the time. That way, the clutter of items that don’t belong on the main floor stays in the ‘catch all’ basket, which is completely hidden away when guests come over.

If you could tour any celebrities home, who would it be?

If I could tour a celebrity home, it would have to be Lauren Conrad. She has amazing style and I’m sure her home is stunning.

If you had three wishes, what changes would you make to your home?

1.I would paint the exterior of my brick home white and change the front door to a beautiful wood-toned door.
2.I would add a garage.
3.I would change the layout slightly. My home is partially open-concept, but I wish the living room and kitchen had better sight lines.

Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?

I do crafts all the time. In my free time, I like to get together with friends and have craft days. We always make something that is Pinterest-inspired.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I am a firm believer that, with a little hard work and willingness to learn, anyone can become a great DIY’er. I believe that you don’t have to spend a fortune for great style. You can create the home you have always dreamed of one DIY project at a time.
