a funky cowl by MommaKo
A fast knit for yourself or as a gift. Simple yet impressive! With two sizes small and large. Our pattern is based on a 4x4 Diagonal Rib Stitch that’s taken a walk on the wild side. Inspired by a pattern found in Barbara G. Walker’s “A Treasury of Knitting Patterns”

The photos included use Tempting Ewe Yarns Ewe So Wooly Worsted.
This pattern uses multiples of 8 minus 1
stitch. You can alter the pattern to suit your needs or creative tendencies. The smaller pattern uses 16 repeats of 8-1. The long size is
simply doubled.

  • Step 1

Cast on 127 (255), join in the round and place Marker. Setup Rows
    Row 1: Knit all sts.
    Row 2: Purl all sts.
    Row 3: Knit all sts.
Begin working in pattern as follows:
    Pattern Repeat:
    Row 1: *(K4 P4)* until last 7 stitches, K4 P3
    Row 2: P1 *(K4 P4)*until last 6 stitches, K4 P2
    Row 3: P2 *(K4 P4)* until last 5 stitches, K4 P1
    Row 4: P3 *(K4 P4)*until last 4 stitches, K4
    Row 5: P4 *(K4 P4)* until the last 3 stitches, K3
Here’s where the Zig Starts to Zag
(Note the K2 instead of K4. That’s what makes the magic.)

    Row 6: K1 P4 *(K4 P4)* until the last 2 stitches K2 Row 7: P4 *(K4 P4)* until the last 3 stitches K2 P1 Row 8: P3 *(K4 P4)* until the last 4 stitches K2 P2 Row 9: P2 *(K4 P4)* until the last 5 stitches K2 P3 Row 10: P1 *(K4 P4)* until the last 6 stitches K2 P4
Repeat 10 rows until you are satisfied leaving enough yarn to: Knit the 3 setup rows
Bind off using your prefered method and Block.
