You Will Need

Step 1First, collect all the plastic bags you want to use. I used lots of different colored bags, but if you want your yarn to be monochromatic, stick to one color bag. It's easiest to use bags of all the same material.

Step 2Next, straighten out the bag so that its basically a rectangle. It should look like this picture. Don't worry about it being perfect, it doesn't really matter in the end.

Step 3Now fold the bag vertically. I folded mine into fourths. Again, it doesn't really matter, it just makes it easier for you to cut it.

Step 4Cut off the handles...

Step 5... and the bottom of the bag

Step 6Next cut the bag horizontally into strips of about an inch. The thinner the bag, the fatter the strip should be.

Step 7When you unfold the strip, it should look like this.

Step 8Repeat steps 2-6 until you have a lot of strips.

Step 9Loop the strips together and tighten them

Step 10Once you loop a bunch of them together, you'll get a long string of plastic yarn. Use it the same way you would regular yarn. Example: playing with your cat =]
I have forgotten how to cut the bags into a continuous strip but it was so much easier than having to join them all .... I think we sort of cut on he diagonal somehow .... ..... I wish I could remember. !!! If I do ... I will come back and post !
