Description

Learn about weaving and mix up your yarns to create a soft pattern, to display in your home. Fun for seasonal gifts too!

Instructions

  1. Small 2021 01 26 160650 8f1cda1d 5550 4f34 9da4 5af560381d3b

Choose the yarn you want to use. I chose to use a range of natural fibres, including banana yarn, nettle and hemp. You will also need an embroidery hoop, which you can purchase at a craft/ haberdashery store or from Amazon. You can use a needle to thread the yarn, but this is optional as you can also use your hands, this would just be more fiddly.

  2. Small 2021 01 26 161322 31400a8d 6ba3 4b82 8367 81ed34de2ee8

Take the middle hoop and tie on your yarn.

  3. Small 2021 01 26 161434 b44f60c0 1cec 448e 8d47 917dde4deef6

Start wrapping the yarn around the hoop, making sure that it is tight.

If you want multiple colours, you can tie yarn on in sections and add on another colour. These vertical yarns will form the 'warp' and the horizontal yarns you thread through them will form the 'weft' of the weave.

  5. Small 2021 01 26 161658 eb05bfc4 cbd3 43bf b969 4c8ee5b38271

Using a needle, or your hands, thread the yarn between each thread, going over and under.

  6. Small 2021 01 26 162214 3438f470 c551 4a71 94f3 b9b75463d242

Do the same on the back, wrapping the yarn around the hoop and turning it over.

  7. Small 2021 01 26 162755 1f7e7c38 91d9 4a90 ae25 2944c79dc46d

Once you have the structure in place, you can add more lines into the pattern, getting closer to the edges.

  8. Small 2021 01 26 162938 89925345 f72e 4ed6 a729 3ebeebc475ec

Final step: Take the outside hoop and put them back together.
