Description

Love dream catchers but want something a little more sturdy? Learn how to make this wire worked pendant with bead accents that make it pop. It is sure to become a new staple in your necklace collection!

Instructions

  1. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 011017 dreamcatchernecklace 2

Cut a length of jewelry wire (I used 20 gauge). This will be wrapped around the loop of the dream catcher so make sure it is decently long.

  2. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 011107 dreamcatchernecklace 4

Begin weaving the wire around the loop until you've gone all the way around. You can use your hands for this but I recommended using jewelry pliers.

  3. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 011227 dreamcatchernecklace 5

Once you've finished going all the way around, cut off the the extra wire and pinch it with your plies so it lays flat.

  4. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 011346 dreamcatchernecklace 7

Now attach a thinner wire by wrapping it around the top a few times. Be sure to leave a tail at the top long enough to make a loop on for later.

  5. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 011457 dreamcatchernecklace 8

You will now be tying the wire like you do a dream catcher- looping the wire around points along the border. My points were a little less than an inch apart. Do this all the way around.

  6. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 011627 dreamcatchernecklace 9

This is what your dream catcher should look like so far. You may have more or less knots than I do depending on the distance of your knots and the size of your hoop, but something like this.

  7. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 011723 dreamcatchernecklace 10

Using the same looping method, you'll continue looping the wire through the spaces between the previous loops instead of the border hoop.

  8. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 011854 dreamcatchernecklace 11

It should start looking like this. Continue this in a spiral all the way around.

  9. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 012018 dreamcatchernecklace 12

You can occasionally thread a bead onto the wire for decoration.

  10. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 012053 dreamcatchernecklace 13

Once your dream catcher starts to look like a net and you still have a little hole in the middle (for the good dreams to pass through, of course) it is about time to finish it off.

  11. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 012212 dreamcatchernecklace 14

Thread on a small feather bead or pendant...

...and wrap the wire around a few times in the back to knot it off. Cut off extra wire and pinch to secure.

  13. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 012530 dreamcatchernecklace 16

Make a loop on the top of the hoop using the tail you left at the beginning. Add on a jump ring.

  14. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 043522 dreamcatchernecklace 18

Next, grab 3 jump rings and cut 3 lengths of chain around an inch long.

  15. Small 110094 2f2015 07 27 070803 dreamcatchernecklace 19

Open a jump ring and attach it along the bottom of the dream catcher. Hook on one of the chains that you just cut and close the jump ring.

  16. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 050214 dreamcatchernecklace 22

Repeat the process 2 more times so all three chains hang along the bottom of the dream catcher.

  17. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 051828 dreamcatchernecklace 24

Cut some wire and make a hoop on one end to create an eye pin.

  18. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 052017 dreamcatchernecklace 26

Thread on one of the assorted beads and then create another loop on top.

  19. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 052130 dreamcatchernecklace 27

Attach a feather bead to the bottom loop.

  20. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 052157 dreamcatchernecklace 28

Repeat 2 more times with assorted beads.

  21. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 052232 dreamcatchernecklace 29

Attach the three pieces you just made to each of the dangling chains using the top loop. Now the pendant is done.

  22. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 052510 dreamcatchernecklace 30

Cut some chain to the length you want your necklace and then thread it through the jump ring on the top of the pendant.

  23. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 052704 dreamcatchernecklace 31

Attach a clasp to the open ends of the chain using jump rings.

  24. Small 110094 2f2015 07 26 052718 dreamcatchernecklace 33

Wear your new dream catcher with pride :)
