For the headband, I just doubled up the yarn and used a 6.5mm hook to make the process easier and faster. For both the headband and the cowl, I used a double crochet throughout. I found a really great youtube video for making the flower here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6unzzm3_xG8
