I purchased a $2 pair of fairy wings for my five month old daughter. The fabric promptly tore, thus i thought my green pantyhose would look excellent on them instead. And it went from there...
Destroy cheap and nasty wings, until you are left with nothing but a two piece wire frame (1. top wings, 2. bottom wings)
Take pretty pantyhose, and chop the legs off at the crotch. Keep everything.
Stretch one leg of pantyhose over frame of top wings. When covered, secure by tying the pantyhose leg opening in a knot. Repeat this step for the bottom wings also.
Trim remaining pantyhose piece so you are left with one band of pantyhose. Assemble top and bottom wings appropriately, and use remaining pantyhose band to secure, by wrapping around the centre of wings like a hair tie.
Once they look like actual wings, thread elastic through the secure pantyhose band - this is how your wings will be worn.
Decorate as you please....stitch fabric flowers, butterflys or whatever on. draw pretty swirly patterns in pva and coat with glitter. The reason i used glitter AND pva as opposed to glitter glue, is you are able to achieve a fade effect by using different colour glitters. But honestly, just do what you want. Works for me!
