You Will Need (3 things)

  • ½ in (1.3 cm) Button(s) x 9
  • 42 ½ in (108 cm) spotted Voile : 2 yd 27 in (2.5 m)
  • ¼ in (0.8 cm) Elastic : 35 ½ in (90cm)

Steps (12 steps, 180 minutes)

    Sew two rows of basting between notches on lower edge of front and back bodice pieces. Gather so that notches match those on top edge of blouse front and back pieces. Sew bodice pieces to blouse pieces, matching notches. Remove basting.

    Sew side seams and press towards back.

    To make plackets, fold placket allowance in with right sides together, then press. Fold placket back so that the raw edge meets the pressed fold you just made, then press again. Sew along hem line to top and bottom edges. Clip out corners, then turn placket right way out by turning out the corners.

    Double fold top edge of bodice pieces for elastic casing, then topstitch.

    Double fold blouse hem, then topstitch.

    Insert elastic into bodice piece elastic casings, stitching as shown. Topstitch plackets.

    Gather (as in step 1) lower edge of upper sleeve pieces between notches to match upper edge of lower sleeve pieces, matching center notches. Sew together and remove basting.

    Sew underarm seams.

  9. 9

    Double fold top sleeve hem, then topstitch.

  10. 10

    Double fold top edge of sleeve pieces for elastic casing, then press. Sew sleeves to bodice at underarms, matching notches.

  11. 11

    Topstitch elastic casing on sleeves. Insert elastic into elastic casings through clipped stitches at seam allowance edge, stitching as shown.

  12. 12

    Make buttonholes and sew on buttons.
