This is a weight blanket that i made for my son. My son has allot of trouble sleeping for he is very stimulus sensitive and he needs pressure around him in order the feel secure and save.So i made him a blanket out of pillow covers filled with split peas. which i lay ontop of his normal blanket so he feels the pressure. Now he sleeps like a baby, and i would like to share this with you. This is my first how too so i hope it makes sense! You need 2 old pillow covers Split peas ( i used 1,5 kg for my son he is about 11 kg, you dont want to crush him ) long strip of fabric bout 1 or 2 meters long, this is used so you can strap the blanket under the mattress and i used 2 zippers for the opening of the covers, mine was 60 cm so you should messure your pillow cover. Some felt to make some cute decorations.

Instructions

  1. Small dsc 0478

Take a old pillow cover and sew squares in it, in every square i left 2 openings in about 2 cm so the peas can go around easier. i used 9 squeares in total. the opening of the pillow cover i left open so i can place a ripper in it, so the peas cant go anywhere. when done, fill with peas. that takes a while.

  2. Small dsc 0479

Take the long strip of fabrib and make a nice long lap out of it , mine is around 1 meter so it can go around the mattras. Next sew the other pillow cover on it , just make sure you sew just one side on it. You'll be wanted to slide the other cover with peas in it. Add the zipper and make some felt decorations on it.

  3. Small dsc 0480

When you filled the one cover with peas and zipped it you can place it in your other cover. It should look like this. i must say dont just make this for any kid. it weighs around 2 kg in total so you should consult a doktor or a specialist for it. its mostly used on childeren with autisme or stimulus sensitive!!
