Crochet Therapy
Inspired by the sea, this wrap was designed to promote relaxation. The pattern repeats are meditative and calming, and the colours encourage serenity and peace of mind.

TENSION
3 shells (18 sts) measure 10 cm (4 in) and 6 shells (12 rows) measure 10.5 cm (4¼ in) over pattern, using size 5 mm (US H-8) hook.
Dimensions
165 cm (65 in) long and 46 cm (18 in) wide across the widest part.

Notes
Each 5tr group counts as one shell.
This wrap is worked from the top down. Each row will have one less shell than the previous row, creating a triangular piece.
You will need a multiple of 6 plus 2 chains to start. If you would like to make a larger wrap, simply add multiples of 6 chains. Remember that the wrap is triangular, so adding repeats
will automatically add rows as well.

  • Step 2

    Finishing
To block the wrap, pin it out onto a padded surface, taking care not to overstretch the stitches, and to pin it out symmetrically. Spray the wrap lightly with cool water. Allow the wrap to dry before removing the pins.
    Weave in loose ends.

    Feel-good tip
Imagine the repeating sound of the ocean as you rhythmically crochet
the shells of your pattern. Use your wave wrap to keep you warm outdoors
and remind yourself to be mindfully aware of nature’s incredible array of textures and colours.

  • Step 3

    Visualisation Exercise:

    Relax

Where possible, practice this visualisation exercise outside. Take off your shoes and socks, and sit comfortably on a seat or stool with both feet on the ground.

1 Close your eyes. Focus your thoughts on the sensations coming from the soles of your feet. Feel the connection with the ground or floor beneath them and notice its temperature
and texture.

2 Now imagine you are on a beach – perhaps it’s your favourite beach or an imaginary sandy shoreline stretching before you. The sand is warm beneath your feet.

3 Become aware of the sand’s graininess between your toes as it gently brushes over your feet in the light, warm breeze.

4 In the distance you can hear the sea. It’s a gentle, calm day so the waves are lapping
the shoreline rhythmically. The sun is warm enough to relax you but not too hot – everything is just right.

5 Feel a light sea breeze kiss your cheeks and ripple through your hair. It brings with it the sound of distant, happy laughter and seagulls soaring high above. These sounds mingle with the sound of the waves.

6 Visualise yourself walking along the shoreline, and as you do so, notice the pebbles and shells washed up by the sea. Feel inspired by their colours and textures.

7 Notice a piece of weathered wood entangled in seaweed and the odd bright smattering of flotsam discarded by the tide.

8 Feel refreshed by the sea air and motivated by the colours and textures of the shoreline.

9 Open your eyes and observe your surroundings just like a newcomer exploring the colours and textures of a fresh seashore.
