Ombre Watercolor Calligraphy
Using watercolor to create calligraphy results in a sort of blended rainbow effect. I have used watercolor here to make a tequila sunrise-inspired piece.

    Step 1

    Begin by putting a little bit of water in your watercolor pan to soften the colors that you wish to use. I will be using yellow, orange, and red.

    Use a brush to apply one color to the back of your nib. Here, I have chosen to begin with yellow.

    Use that color to initiate your first letter (or first few strokes, if you are creating an illustration).

    Step 4

    Add another tone of watercolor to the back, behind the first watercolor tone. Your colors will blend on the back of the nib as you write.

    Continue to write using this technique, alternating the colors you apply to the back of the nib.
