Description

Instructions

  1. Small 114340 2f2016 05 20 111533 artragious.art24.hr.photo2

Draw a tree on the canvas with your pencil.

  2. Small 114340 2f2016 05 20 111831 artragious.art24.hr.photo4

Pick a bright color and paint the background with acrylic paint. Let some of the paint drip down one side of the canvas.

  3. Small 114340 2f2016 05 20 111839 artragious.art24.hr.photo6

Next paint the tree, using a small paintbrush to stay inside the lines.

  4. Small 114340 2f2016 05 20 111845 artragious.art24.hr.photo7

Draw about 26 butterflies on rough watercolor paper, using a fine-point permanent black marker. Make them all different sizes, shapes, and patterns!

  5. Small 114340 2f2016 05 20 111849 artragious.art24.hr.photo11

Add color to the butterflies with watercolor paint or thinned acrylic paint. Let the paint dry completely.

  6. Small 114340 2f2016 05 20 111917 artragious.art24.hr.photo13

Cut out the butterflies. They don’t need to perfect; it’s just fine to leave some of the white watercolor paper showing, especially around the antennae! Punch four holes in a zigzag pattern in the center of each butterfly.

  7. Small 114340 2f2016 05 20 111923 artragious.art24.hr.photo14

Use heavy-duty thread to stitch the butterflies onto the canvas in a random pattern.

  8. Small 114340 2f2016 05 20 111934 artragious.art24.hr.final3

If you’d like, use a watercolor pencil or crayon to add a short message or phrase to complete your artwork!
