    Body
    Cast on 7 sts with golden-yellow yarn.
    Row 1 (WS): p.
    Row 2: (kf/b) in each st (14).
    Row 3: p.

yellow yarn.
    Rows 1–5: st/st, starting with 
a p row.
    Row 6: k, decreasing 1 st at each end of the row (13).
    Row 7: p.
    Repeat rows 6 and 7 until 7 sts remain.
    Break yarn, draw through sts, pull tightly and fasten off.

  • Step 3

    Tail flippers: make two
    Cast on 7 sts with golden-
yellow yarn.
    Start with the upper layer of the flipper and finish with the base layer. The base layer is one row less than the top layer.
    Rows 1–5: st/st, starting with 
a p row.
    Row 6: kf/b, k to last st, kf/b (9).
    Rows 7–10: st/st, starting with a p row.
    Row 11: k for fold line.
    Rows 12–15: st/st, starting with a k row.
    Row 16: skpo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog (7).
    Rows 17–20: st/st, starting with a p row.
    Cast off.

  • Step 4

    Tusks: make two
    Cast on 3 sts with white yarn and work an i-cord (see page 21) as follows:
    Rows 1–5: k.
    Row 6: skpo, k1 (2).
    Turn, p2tog and fasten off.

    To make up
    Sew the body seam, leaving a gap for stuffing, stuff and close the gap. Work a gathering thread through the front of the body, over the decreases at row 36 and pull gently to make a dent for the eyes.
    Sew the seams of each front flipper and attach them to the body without stuffing. Repeat with the tail flippers.
    Using the photograph for guidance, attach the tusks.
    With dark brown yarn, embroider each eye with a French knot and nostrils or a nose with backstitch.
    With fine light brown yarn, create the whiskers with backstitch, leaving a long loop every other stitch. Cut the loops and tease the yarn for finer strands.
