Description

Follow this tutorial for making your own colorful canvas art with a herringbone print.

Instructions

  1. Small 107797 2f2015 03 04 053533 herringbone%2b03

First, gather your supplies and choose several paint colors for the background of the canvas.

  2. Small 107797 2f2015 03 04 054032 herringbone%2b04

Paint the canvas in a splotchy, colorful pattern. No actual pattern is necessary. You just want to see the color peeking through the herringbone pattern when finished. Let dry.

  3. Small 107797 2f2015 03 04 054257 herringbone%2b10

Cut the painters tape for your herringbone pattern. The size may vary according to your canvas, but 1 inch x 3 inch pieces are recommended for this example, using a 12-inch square canvas. Lay the tape over the dry painting in a herringbone pattern with 1/2 inch spaces in between.

  4. Small 107797 2f2015 03 04 054411 herringbone%2b01

Paint over the tape with white paint and let dry completely.

  5. Small 107797 2f2015 03 04 054420 herringbone%2b19

Peel off the tape and you have a clear, colorful herringbone pattern. Now, hang it on your wall for a fun statement piece.
