I made mine to match my bedroom, which has red velvet in it. It's a vanity stool, though this can be made to fit any stool with some creativity. You will need fabric, lace, and some sort of closure (hook and eye, velcro, etc.). If you want to skip the lace, you will need elastic.

I made mine to match my bedroom, which has red velvet in it. It's a vanity stool, though this can be made to fit any stool with some creativity. You will need fabric, lace, and some sort of closure (hook and eye, velcro, etc.). If you want to skip the lace, you will need elastic.

Instructions

  1. Measure the stool. Let's say yours is circle at the top like mine: measure the diameter and mark your fabric. I recommend a stretchy fabric for the top, this way you will have a smooth look.

  2. Cut out the top part, and if not using the lace around the edge, leave a 1 inch seam allowance for elastic. Use a normal seam allowance if you are using the lace.

  3. For the bottom, cut a length of fabric double the circumference of the stool top. Leave enough room for seam allowance. The length should be 2 inches longer than the height of your stool.

  4. Hem the bottom as you like, I rolled mine. Ruffle the top part, making sure the line you sew on is where you will be attaching the top part of the stool cover to.

  5. Stitch the two open edges of the ruffled fabric closed (side seams), and pin and sew it to the circle of fabric you cut before (or square, depending on your stool's shape).

  6. If you are using the lace, skip this step. Using the extra seam allowance, take some elastic and fit it around your stool (right under the lip of the seat). Mark these two points. Make a casing out of the seam allowance and put in the elastic.

  7. Trim any excess seams on the inside. Take lace (if using) and wrap around the stool under the lip of the seat (do to tightly). Mark the points and leave some excess on the inside. Attach hook and eye closures, or velcro, to hold the lace in this place.

  8. You're done! Now take some pics and show me your work :) Enjoy your new seat cover.
