Hi, in support of mums everywhere who are faced with providing outfits for school activity days, I thought I would share my most recent creations in the name of edyouu-kashun (education, geddit??) In brief, waistcoats are an costume essential, they really transform the rest of the outfits. Both these shown in photos were small mens or womens garments that i had made to fit by extra sewing in back centre seam and at side seams. Avoid any artifical fabrics, look for natural colours and fabrics. Outfit on the left in browns was ment to be an urchin but turned out to look a bit posh, all that tweedyness i think! The brown trousers were a pair of small womens trousers, cut off at knee and elastic sewn in, and extra elastic at waist. The shirt had the standard collar cut off for the 'grandad' effect. Beg borrow or steal a flat cap, and bobs your uncle. The factory owner look in black and green was achieved by tucking black school trousers into longish black socks, plain black shirt from boot sale, and the top hat was made from a cocopops box, covered in black fabric. Scrap of cloth at neck adds to the urchin look. Unruly offspring decided to make a pipe from bit of cardboard and apparently spent the day wielding it at others. Hummmmm.
