Description

Pair this tape-embellished valance with your favorite patterned curtains or let your craft take center stage by matching it to a solid-colored shade.

Instructions

  1. To Make the Valance Working with your valance on a flat surface, use the measuring tape and chalk to measure and mark a few inches in from the top left hand corner of the valance.

  2. Using the chalk mark you just created as your starting point, measure diagonally toward the bottom of the valance, stopping
a few inches above the bottom
edge. Add 1 in. to this measurement and use it as your guide to cut 10 to
12 strips of tape (depending on the length of the valance).

  3. Remove the paper backing from one strip of tape and place it on the valance, starting at the chalk mark and moving diagonally downward to the right. Fold the excess 1 in. of tape over the top edge of the valance, securing in place in back.

  4. Remove the paper backing
from the second strip of tape and
place it on the valance, starting
2 in. to 3 in. farther in from the top end of your first piece and folding the excess tape over the top edge of the valance. Moving diagonally downward and to the left, place the tape on the valance. The second strip of tape will cross over the first, creating a tepee shape when you are finished.

  5. Continue in this way, placing strips of tape in crisscrossing shapes until the entire length of the valance is covered, making sure the pattern is even as you go.

  6. To finish the valance, cut a piece of tape that is 2 in. longer than the length of the valance. Remove the paper backing and place the strip along the bottom edge, covering the edges of each tepee as you go. Fold the excess tape over the left and right edges of the valance. TIP Once you’ve created one tepee shape, measure its size and use that as your guide to map out the rest of the valance. Do this before removing the paper backing and sticking the tape to the fabric. If you realize the shape is too wide or narrow to repeat evenly over the entire valance, adjust the tape until
you have a tepee shape that works.
