  1. I removed the skirt from a (just my size) black velvet dress and then cut the zipper from the top opening the back at minimum 2 inches. This stretchy velvet was lined so I used hem tape to tack the two layers down when constructing the diamond cut-outs that begin just 2-3 cm from the scoop neckline and the shoulder seams. During hemming, ties cut from scrap velvet were added at the neckline and the bust to secure the choli in back. To make the cutouts in the arms and front, I constructed a pattern by cutting a triangle on the fold to make a diamond shape. At each point extend a 90 degree line perpendicular 5/8 inch to allow for the seam. Fold and sew. Trim added along bust line. Corset style strapless bra is worn under choli for decoration.
