Refresh your shelves and home decor with a fresh coat of paint!

It's amazing to me how a fresh coat of paint can really transform a piece and bring it into the style of your home. This shelving unit is a staple in our house. We've had this thing since I was in college, and it has followed us in all 10 of our moves (yes, 10), but was in need of a refresh. Nothing that spray paint can't handle!

Description

It's amazing to me how a fresh coat of paint can really transform a piece and bring it into the style of your home. This shelving unit is a staple in our house. We've had this thing since I was in college, and it has followed us in all 10 of our moves (yes, 10), but was in need of a refresh. Nothing that spray paint can't handle!

Instructions

  1. Small 2014 02 25 190041 shelf 20before 640

Take the shelving unit apart. We removed the mirror, bulletin board, as well as the hooks so we could update each piece separately.

  2. Small 2014 02 25 190149 shelf 20spraypaint small

Spray paint the frame. Make sure you're using long, even strokes to ensure that there are no paint drips. I typically put on about three thin coats.

  3. Small 2014 02 25 190227 shelf 20spray 20paint small

I spray painted the hooks a metal color, which seemed to work better with the white frame.

  4. Small 2014 02 25 190300 shelf 20stripes small

I wanted to bring some design into this shelf, so using blue painters tape and some mint paint I had leftover from our walls, I painted stripes on the bulletin board portion of the shelf.

  5. Allow everything to dry for about 24 hours before reassembling to ensure that things don't stick together if you ever want to paint again. And then you're done!
