"Unlucky" Charm Bracelet

'Shrink' your fears with this Friday the 13th Must.

About

This Friday the 13th it's time to embrace and face all the things that make people nervous, I used a bat, a broken mirror, a voodoo doll, a raven, the number 13, a black cat, a full moon, an owl, and an open umbrella inside. For the charms on my bracelet I made homemade shrinkies from recycled #6 plastic. (Shrinkies were a huge hit with campers at summer camp. You can buy Shrinkie Dink plastic sheets, but why bother when you can recycle something.)

You Will Need (2 things)

  • 350 degree Oven
  • Latch

Steps (10 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

Start with #6 plastic. (The kind you often find from deli containers. I used a cookie container.)

  2. 2

Cut shape. I cut circles all the same size.

  3. 3

I printed off a sheet of clip art I found on the computer as a template to trace my designs.

  4. 4

Use magic markers/Sharpies to trace and decorate.

  5. 5

Punch hole in plastic before they go in the oven. It will be too thick after wards.

  6. 6

Place in a pre-heated 350-400 degree oven. They will curl up, shrink, then flatten out and stop shrinking. They only take a few seconds so watch them.

  7. 7

This picture shows how much they can shrink form the original size to the final size.

  8. 8

Get chain ready with latch attached on end. The jump rings are for attaching the charms to the chains of the bracelet.

  9. 9

Attach the charms by the jump rings to the chain. Space evenly.

  10. 10

    Wear and enjoy.
