Description

This technique not only shows you how to make an earring wire, but how to make two identical ones at the same time! It saves you time, money, and you'll never have to worry about having to run to the craft store next time you run out! The best part is, you probably already have the supplies on hand.

Instructions

  1. Small 110934 2f2015 09 10 091324 earringwires 1

    Cut about 3'' of wire

  2. Small 110934 2f2015 09 10 091341 earringwires 2

Use your round nose pliers and pinch the middle of the wire. While pinching the wire with the pliers, use your free hand to bend the wire so the two sides are straight down.

  3. Small 110934 2f2015 09 10 091412 earringwires 3

Using your needle nose pliers, pinch and flatten the crease you made as tight as you can.

  4. Small 110934 2f2015 09 10 091433 earringwires 4

Use your round nose pliers and hold the closed end of the wire at the very tip of the pliers. Wrap the tails of the wire around the pliers to create a loop.

  5. Small 110934 2f2015 09 10 091454 earringwires 5

With the loop facing outward, firmly hold the looped end of the wire against a dowel (or pen/pencil) and wrap the tails around the dowel to create a "U" shape (like shown).

  6. Small 110934 2f2015 09 10 091517 earringwires 6

On the tail end of the "U" shape, slightly bend the tails upward to create a straight post (like shown).

  7. Small 110934 2f2015 09 10 091556 earringwires 7

You can see the general shape of the earring wires now. Clip off any excess wire to create desired length.

  8. Small 110934 2f2015 09 10 091618 earringwires 8

Take your cutting pliers and trim off the very tip of the closed end on the loop made in the beginning. You may need to loosen the loop a bit for your pliers to fit.

  9. Small 110934 2f2015 09 10 091637 earringwires 9

You can now separate the earring wires. Reshape the loops on the end and file down both ends of the wire until smooth.
