Description

I was inspired by a similar headband on Etsy, but since that headband was $75, I decided to try my own. Modeled by the lovely Gertrude, my faithful wig head.

Instructions

I used 6" wide tulle, which can be found in your local craft/bridal shop by the ribbon. Pull a bunch off the roll, maybe 10-15 feet? I dunno, I didn't measure. Anyway, decide how wide you want this puff. (I went as long as my hand, which is about 7" long. You probably have smaller hands and head than I, though.)

  2. Small img 0171 1294282029

Start rolling it up until you have a dense bunch. I lost track of how many times I wrapped, so if in doubt, roll up more. This would be really hard to make too thick. Feel free to scrunch it up a little as you go for extra volume.

Once you have your bunch, cut another strip of tulle and tie up the middle so you have a big bow. Go ahead and slide it onto the plastic headband to try out the size.

Now it's time to cut it up. First, cut widthwise across each loop, leaving a little room before you get to the knot. (That would be the red lines in the picture.) Then, cut the ends of the loops until you get a whole bunch of ends sticking out. (green lines) If you get any empty spots in the middle, add some more tulle strips. It will also help secure it to the headband.

  5. Hoho, forgot to take a picture for this part. Basically, trim the ends of your puff until you get a nice rounded shape with no weird bits sticking out. Done! You can wear it on top of your head, or pull it to one side for a different look.
