Description

The tube beads are made with even count peyote stitch and then strung together with silver rocailles and glass beads.

Instructions

  1. Small bdsultdbm0904fig5

Decide on your pattern for your first bead. If you wish, you can use the diagram in Fig.1 as your template. Each tube bead is 12 beads wide by 6 rows long.

Prepare your needle with 100cm of thread. Add a stop bead by picking up a rocaille with your needle and moving it to about 15cm from the end of the thread. Loop your thread round and through again and pull tight. Pick up 11 more rocailles. Pick up 1 more rocaille and let it rest next to the last rocaille added. This will be the first bead of the next row.

Pass your needle through the next bead along on the first row. Keep adding beads in this way until you reach the end of the row, with your needle coming out at the first bead you added. Pick up another rocaille and continue back along the second row in the same way. Continue with this technique (even count peyote stitch) until your beaded rectangle is 6 beads wide on both of the short sides.

Bend your peyote rectangle round to form a tube. The edges should fit together like a zipper. Join the edges together by weaving through the beads from one side to the other until you reach the opposite side. You should be back at your stop bead. To secure, knot your current thread to your 15cm of stop bead thread. Weave back through several beads and trim off any excess thread. Attach your needle to the stop bead thread. Weave through and trim in the same way. Make 13 more tube beads in the same way.

Prepare your needle with 250cm of thread. Pick up 1 silver rocaille. Move it to about 50cm from the end of the thread and make this your stop bead. Pick up 19 more silver rocailles, followed by 1 glass bead, 1 tube bead and 1 more of the same size glass bead. Beginning with 20 more rocailles, repeat this sequence until all the tube beads are used. To finish off, tie your 2 ends together several times. Pass your needle through the strung beads until all the thread is used up. Attach your needle to the remaining strand of thread and, going the opposite way round, pass through the strung beads until the thread is used up. Your necklace is now complete.

Your finished necklace should look something like this.
