In this tutorial we will be working in a big journal and create a colourful inky spread with some popular mixed media supplies. I recommend working in an A4 size journal (letter size), but of course you could do this in a smaller journal too.
In this tutorial we will be working in a big journal and create a colourful inky spread with some popular mixed media supplies. I recommend working in an A4 size journal (letter size), but of course you could do this in a smaller journal too.
Brayer craft paint on the whole spread. Brayer white craft paint as a second layer to done down the first.
Brayer metallic paint around the edges.
Use spray inks in several places. I used Dylusions inks in yellows and pinks to complement the background.
Sketch a simple front facing portrait with a black charcoal pencil
Add shading and highlights with watercolours. Don't be afraid to use dark and bright colours (rather than 'skin' colours), it all lends depth and interest.
Use white and black paint pens to add details.
Paint the hair white. If you used Dylusions in the prevous steps then the colour of them will shine through the white which is a nice effect.
Scribble words on the edges of the hair with an applicator bottle
Using a stencil and spray ink add interesting patterns to the hair.
Stamp some meaningful words in the hair
