I had quite a bit of extra fabric left over from the Totoro hoody, so I decided to make a pillow plushy to go with it!

You Will Need (6 things)

  • Grey and white Fleece
  • Sewing Machine
  • Thread
  • small amount of black Felt
  • Two Black Button(s)
  • Stuffing

Steps (8 steps, 180 minutes)

  1. 1

First, I drew and cut out stencils for the ears and body. Trace onto grey fleece 4 ears and 2 body pieces. The final piece of fleece in the photo is about 4 inches wide and long enough to be sewn around a body piece.

  2. 2

Cut out of white fleece 2 circles for eyes and a large circle for totoro's tummy. Use black felt to cut out a nose.

  3. 3

Pin and sew eyes, nose, and belly to one of the body pieces. Here, I attached the buttons for eyes. I also embroidered whiskers and a crease above the nose at this point.

  4. 4

Pin 2 ear pieces together, sew, and turn right-side-out. Repeat for the second ear.

  5. 5

Pin the 4in wide strip of fleece along the back body piece and sew along the edge. Then repeat with the face body piece, making sure its face-down on the back body piece. The ears should be right-side out already, pin them inside the hem of the head and sew along the edge. Kind of confusing, but I hope the picture helps.

  6. 6

Don't forget to leave a hole to turn it inside out!

  7. 7

Stuff and sew up the remaining hole.

  8. 8

    Take a nap and enjoy!
