guess what her name begins with...!

Instructions

  1. Small 102691 2f2014 06 18 203152 img 0872

Cut two square of fabric from the lining material, and two from the black material Mine measured 38cm x 46cm

  2. Small 102691 2f2014 06 18 203238 img 0873

Add a pocket onto one of each of the squares. I put contracting (handmade) bias binding on the top of mine for effect This is optional

  3. Small 102691 2f2014 06 18 203306 img 0874

Sew the lining squares RS together, leaving the top shorter edge open. Sew a gusset into the bottom of both sides. Here's a good tutorial on how to do it http://www.sewretrothebook.com/how-to-make-a-gusset.html

  4. Small 102691 2f2014 06 18 203437 img 0875

Now make your template. I used the computer for this, because my drawings are bad :P

  5. Small 102691 2f2014 06 18 203507 img 0876

Print out your template, cut out the shape and place it on the front side of your bag. Sew it on using close zig-zag stitch. Once you've done this, sew the two pieces of black fabric RS together, again, leaving the top shorter edge open.

  6. Small 102691 2f2014 06 18 203532 img 0877

Now make your handles. Take a piece of fabric (around 5" wide, and however long you want + seam allowance) and press it in half. Fold the outer edges into the half-mark (as shown in the picture) and then fold everything back in half. This will create your strap (sorry, that was long, and probably doesn't make sense)

  7. Small 102691 2f2014 06 18 203739 img 0879

Topstitch along both sides using a contrasting thread (I chose blue, to go with my "K")

  8. Small 102691 2f2014 06 18 203808 img 0880

Pin the handles onto the front of the bag like so: Now put your black bag INSIDE your lining fabric (the lining fabric facing wrong side out)

  9. Small 102691 2f2014 06 18 204219 img 0881

Sew along the top, leaving a 2" gap for turning (I backstitched when I got to the handles, for extra strength)

  10. Small 102691 2f2014 06 18 204253 img 0899

Turn it inside out, press and topstitch. You're done! Go and show off your new bag :D
