Tin Can Hanging Planter

Turn a tin can into a decorative and functional hanging planter.

You Will Need (11 things)
- Tin Can(S)
- Twine
- Decoupage Medium
- Drill
- Scissors (or papercutter)
- Paint Brush (sponge)
- Can Opener
- Paper Scrapbook or Wallpaper
- Drip Tray (lid from peanut butter jar)
- Plant Pots (lightweight plastic)
Steps (7 steps, 30 minutes)

Remove labels from a smooth-sided tin can. (I used Milo tins.) Set label aside to use later. Wash and dry the can. If the plant pot does not fit you may need to proceed to Step 2. If it does fit, skip Step 2.

If applicable, remove the edge or lip of the lid with a can opener. In this case the plant pot entirely hides the raw sharp edges of the tin where the lip was removed. If not, you may file the edges smooth.

Locate a suitable drip tray. In this case, the lid from a peanut butter jar was cleaned and used.

Using the label as a template, cut decorative paper to size. You may need to add a thin strip of paper if the scrapbook paper is not long enough to cover the full circumference. (You can later orient that portion of your planter to the back.) Affix paper to jar with decoupage medium. Apply two coats of decoupage medium to the surface of the paper, allowing it to dry between coats.

Drill four holes at equidistance, as pictured below, around the top of the can.

Insert twine into the holes, and knot the ends to secure them. Insert drip tray, and planter with a plant of your choice.

Hang and enjoy.
Alternately, you could skip the drilling and simply use it as a standing planter.
