A fast, easy hat for cold weather

I found the pattern for "The Stitch is the Thing" hat on the back of a paper that came on a ball of Lion Brand Wool-Ease yarn. It looked simple and didn't require double pointed needles, so I thought I would give it a try. I used yarn scraps left over from other projects and ended up with a dark blue-light blue striped pattern. As written on the paper: Cast on 88 stitches. Knit until hat measures 11 1/2 inches. Do not bind off. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Using a yarn needle, thread tail through each stitch and remove from knitting needle. Pull tightly together for top of hat and use the tail to sew the side seam. *** I found the hat to be rather long, so I wear it with the end turned up and pinned in place.
