You Will Need (6 things)

  • Styling Cream
  • Medium-sized Curling Tong
  • Mixed- Bristle Brush
  • Hair Elastic
  • Hair Grips
  • Hairspray

Steps (7 steps, 5 minutes)

  1. 1

This up-do all comes down to the texture – there must be plenty of movement in your hair. Work a little styling cream with heat protection through dry hair to prep it for the oncoming heat.

  2. 2

Tong your hair in no particular fashion. The hair is, after all, going up but this step is crucial. Work your way around your head, tonging random sections of no specific width.

  3. 3

I truly believe that your hands are your best styling tool and it’s time to put them to use. Get your hands in your hair and shake everything up.

  4. 4

To create some height around your crown use a mixed-bristle brush to back-brush a few sections of hair. To do this all you need to do is put the brush against the underneath of your hair a few centimetres from your roots and brush the hair backwards towards your head. Only do this in one direction and not frantically back and forth. This is a much gentler alternative to the backcombing that dominated the eighties and it is much easier to brush out at the end of the evening.

  5. 5

Pull your hair into a ponytail that’s above the occipital bone (the bone at the back of your head just above the top of your neck) and tie it off with a hair elastic.

  6. 6

Take hold of the ponytail and fold it into a loop around your fingers. Flatten it against your head, over the base of your ponytail, to create a kind of flattened bun. Now pin it in place with hairgrips.

  7. 7

Work some more styling cream between your hands and use your fingers to rough up the hair around your hairline so everything looks very soft. Once you’re happy with it, mist with hairspray.
