I couldn't help myself. When my cousin told me she was pregnant, this was one of the first things that popped into my head for her baby shower gifts. I can't wait to see the look on her face!
I've seen sperm+egg cell jewelry, art and keychains, but nothing that serves quite the appropriate purpose as this Ovum and Spermatozoa Mobile!
I mean come on, the first message the kid should get is that it's a winner, right? Or at the very least, that it's the lucky one. ;)
This mobile is definitely as magical as my rain cloud mobile. It's definitely as whimsical as well. It's pretty much just plain awesomeness.

- Size H Crochet Hook for the ovum
- Tapestry Needle

Crochet an amigurumi ball. I couldn't find a decent pattern for a huge ball, so I made up my own.
Pretty much you just need to increase until it's the size you want, then crochet evenly for one less than that number of increase rows, and then simply decrease by the same amount of rows that you increased by.
I increased for 13 rows, crocheted evenly for 12, and decreased for 13. It is stuffed with polyfil and yarn scraps.
The sperm cells are a ch 4, sl st into first ch, crochet 4 into loop. I crocheted around my thumb until the "cup" reached my knuckle, then began decreasing by sc, sc2tog until a tip was formed, then I chained 12 and fastened off.
The sperm cells are attached to the ovum by fishing line, but you can always use a chain instead! No matter which option you use, this is not a toy! So it should never be within reach of little hands.
