Instructions

  1. Cast on 46 stitches with main color. Rows 1 – 60: Work chart follow instructions for left and right hand. Left hand: Work the chart with contrasting color for “PURL” or “DKA”, ignoring the color work for “KNIT” or “I Heart”. Right hand: Work the chart with contrasting color for “KNIT” or “I Heart”, ignoring the color work for “PURL” or “DKA”. Bind off. With right side facing out, sew up mitten with mattress stitch starting at the cuff. Sew 12 stitches from the cuff and 8 more stitches, then skip 10 stiches (these will be picked up for the thumb) and with another strand of yarn, sew up the rest of the mitten.

  2. Thumb: Pick up and knit the 10 stitches from each side of the mitten that weren’t sewn into the seam. Join in the round. Knit 3 rounds then decrease next round as follows; *K1, K2tog, K4, K2tog, K1 repeat one more time. 16 stitches remain. Knit 16 more rows (or until just about covering the thumb) and decrease as follows; K2tog 8 times until 4 stitches remain. Break yarn, cinch remaining stitches closed and weave in ends.
