Instructions

  1. The Pattern: I started at the brim and worked to the top. So, to start Chain 57 sts. Join first and last sts to make a large loop. Make sure you don't twist the chain.

  2. Round 1+2: ch 2, hdc around, sl in ch2

  3. Round 3: ch 2, *hdc 18, inc. repeat from * around, sl in ch2 (60 sts)

  4. Round 4+5: (these are the window rows) ch2, hdc as follows: *4 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 4 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, repeat from * around, sl in ch2 You will do the pattern twice each time around. It takes a while because you have to change colours so much, but it is worth it!) (60 sts)

  5. Round 6: ch2, hdc around in blue, sl in ch2 (60sts)

  6. Round 7+ 8: (these are the window rows) ch2, hdc as follows: *4 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 4 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, 1 blue, 3 white, repeat from * around, sl in ch2 (60 sts)

  7. Round 9+ 10: ch2, hdc around in blue, sl in ch2 Round 11+12: ch2, hdc around in black, sl in ch2 (this is where you will write 'Police Box') Round 13+14: ch2, hdc around in blue, sl in ch2

  8. Decrease rows: Round 15: ch2, *hdc 8, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2 Round 16: ch2, *hdc 7, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2 Round 17: ch2, *hdc 6, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2 Round 18: ch2, *hdc 5, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2 Round 19: ch2, *hdc 4, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2 Round 20: ch2, *hdc 3, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2 Round 21: ch2, *hdc 2, hdc2tog, repeat from star around, sl into ch2 Round 22-24: hdc2tog around

  9. Fasten off, sew together and weave in ends. Choose which side is the front and embroider 'Police Box' on the black strip.

    For the pompom: Hold your fingers apart and wrap yarn around all four fingers, loosely. When it is thick enough, tie a piece of string tightly around the middle, right between your middle and ring fingers.

    Then cut down the sides by your pointer finger and your pinky. Attach to the top of the hat. This is the light.
