About

Everything comes from the dollar store. If not it can be bought cheaply elsewhere. I spend about $8 per tree. Some more some less, depending how fancy or simple you would like to be. I made one for about $15 once and it sold for $80. They make great gifts.

You Will Need (6 things)

  • 2 Garland
  • 6 Coat Hangers identical
  • 1 Masking Tape
  • 2 Christmas Tree Fairy Lights about 100 lights each
  • 1 Mini Ornament optional
  • 1 Wire or bread twist ties

Steps (11 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

First layout all hangers in groups of two as shown. Tape in a few spots for stability. You will end up with 3 of these.

  2. 2

Next insert one set into the second, and tape joints for more support.

  3. 3

Insert the last one into the middle of the one you made previously. This will be the finished frame. Tape some more for strength, and depending how rough you got, bend the edges straight to make the tree shape.

  4. 4

Here is a close up of the finished frame middle joint.

  5. 5

To start the lights, you will need to leave a tail hanging out to plug into the wall. Pick a post and start from there. Taping it to the lower part of the frame.

  6. 6

Now wrap the lights around the frame and tape off every so often. This prevents the lights from wandering away later.

  7. 7

This is aproxamately what your project should look like when the lights are finished.(You will want lights closer together on the wider part of the frame to keep things looking good.) If there are lights left over when you get to the top, tuck them into the frame and tape inside.

  8. 8

Start the garland in the same spot as the lights. I usually wrap the first row around each piece of frame so it don't slide off the bottom. You can use scotch tape or wire to secure this.

  9. 9

If you are cheap like me, I use bread ties and peel the paper off. Or use craft wire, it's about $3-5 a roll and cut short pieces. But this is prefered over tape because it looks better.

  10. 10

Continue up to the top and finish like the lights. Tucking the extra inside and tape from the inside of the frame. This is the end of the basic tree.

  11. 11

I have added beaded garland and mini ornaments before. This looks real nice. You can also make a felt tree skirt and mini presents glued to the skirt for even more detail. This is what I do for big money makers, or fancy gifts.(sorry no picture)
    ENJOY!!!
