In the larp Nero I'm playing a rabbit named cabbage. She's a spunky little thing and I wanted to make super long ears for the charater. My online search for rabbit ear tutorials have lead me to things I wasn't quite looking for. So I made my own with ideas from other tutorials mixed in. ++++++++++ This tutorial is for personal use only, please do not sell anything made from this tut. Instructions

Choose your fabric! You don't need much and You'll most likely have plenty to spare. I suggest a stiff cotton lining for the inside of the ears. I used a slightly stretchy pink cotton and it made lots of stretch and fold during sewing. Find a fur that you'd like for the outside, the short fur is great for keeping out of the sewing machine, and long is good if you have enough time and skill.

  2. Small img 0364 1295978849

You can create a basic pattern from a peice of paper folded in half and cut out the shape of the ear, This can be your pattern. From this cut out Your ear shape, but be sure to leave some extra for the seam allowance.

  3. Small img 0363 1295978731

Pet your fur fabric, it's like velvet, in that One side will naturally lay flat and one side will stick up funny. Make sure that your fur is going down (or up if you want to be a bit odd) and cut your ear with the same pattern shape as the under-ear part. Once again make sure to leave some extra for the seam allowance.

Place the pink ontop of the fur, fur in. Attempt to line it up as much as possable. Tip: If there is any extra fur sticking out fee free to gently pull or cut it off the edges, this will help the sewingmachine not get jammed.

  5. Small img 0362 1295979187

Pin down the fabrics! Careful not to poke yourself too hard with the pins (but on the plus side you get to wear those neat looking bandages!) Sew along the lines carefuly. The fabric may fold a bit it's fine just make sure to keep it as straight as possable. Folding is Okay!

  6. Small img 0365 1295979506

Trim off any extra and flip your ear right side out. Vola, you have an ear! Repeat steps 1-6 for the second ear.

  7. Small img 0367 1295979589

Now Plug in and get your hot glue gun ready per the instuctions of the gun.

  8. Small img 0366 1295979863

Your headband may be the color you want, but if you're like me and got yours on a sale you can hot glue fabric or leather to the outside so that it matches your hair better. Clear is good for this too. Place the band on your head and make a mark where you want the ears to start, You may want to have a friend help you on this part, to be sure that everything is even.

  9. Small img 0368 1295979989

With your hot glue gun ready place a dab on the line on the headband and lay the middle of the ear over the glue, press and hold for a few seconds. The glue generally will soak through the cotton and onto the fur, but if it doesnt you can add some on the inside of the ear.

  10. Small img 0369 1295980918

On the inside of the headband add a dab of the hotglue again and press one side of the ear firmly against it, try to squish it as much as possable that way so theres not much extra room between the headband and your head.

  11. Small img 0370 1295980249

Hot glue the inside of the oposite flap and press it down firmly again. Reapet steps 9-11 for the second ear. And Now you have your own bunny ear headband!
